Design Aspects that Influence New Natural Stone Product Development: Qualitative Study of Six Designers

Since ancient times, stone is a natural raw material used to create products. Traditional European companies dedicated to processing stone have the know-how and technology, but nowadays there are a lot of countries involved in this sector and the sales are compromised.
The aim of this research is to detail the opinion of design experts, in relation to identify the most significant aspects involved in this process: perceive the designer’s contribution to transformation companies; understand the aspects of natural stone products that influence behaviour and human well-being; and, identify the determining material aspects that influence product design.
Two methods were used to obtain data: first, the analysis and structuring of the information gathered from the bibliography; to create a script that would serve as support in interviews with expert designers invited to participate in the study. 
The results indicate the benefits that design provides to the material transformation companies, the aspects it contributes to the products characteristics, as well as, the sensations that these produce in man. Concluding that aspects related to the material influence corporate strategy.
